Welcome to our March guest ...

Tania Ridgwell with her delightful take on our artwork this month.

I was inspired by the owl, the wood grain look and also the colours from the owl itself....

My name is Tania Ridgwell and I live in the North Eastern suburbs of Adelaide with my partner of 14 years and our beautiful 10 year old daughter. My Paper Crafting journey started soon after she was born and she is my never ending source of inspiration. I am totally addicted to all things craft and love to create anything from layouts to cards though my absolute favourite is for anything Off The Page.
I love to try new techniques and though I don't have any one specific style I would have to say the majority of my work is "feminine" and I love to incorporate mixed media into my work along with chipboard, blooms and plenty of bling!

Please visit me on my blog:  http://taniaridgwell.blogspot.com.au/

Here are some more of my layouts ...

Thank you so much for guesting with us this month Tania.  We have loved seeing your gorgeous work.

Remember ....

You still have time until the end of the month to upload your own take on this challenge.  All details are on the blog sidebar. We'd love to see what you can do with our inspiration this month.

More March inspiration ...

Welcome to our mid month reveal. We are working with this super cute and quirky painting by Mia Taninaka called Oh The Wise One.

CRITERIA - Wood Veneer

ANGELIKA

I was inspired by the painted wood, so I painted and embossed wood hearts. I was also inspired by the black outlines of the painted part, so I've included a lot of black elements.

TONE
I was inspired by the brown wood color and the owl.

MARY
This is my grandson playing in Cook Park, next to the massive old tree he looks so little.

and I also created a card (no guesses required as to what inspired me!)

ANNA

Inspiration : wood background, the owl, the colors and the title of the artwork. I have used several wood veneers.smile emoticon

KAT
The dark outlines and solid colours remind me of colouring in so I made a BTP caddy and handmade colouring in book for my son. I used a wood veneer paper for the background and added lots of fussy cut owls.

KAREN

My inspiration is obviously the cute owl!

JANE

Inspired by the use of white space in the artwork and the overall design layout.  I have used a stamped image of flowers to replicate the tree branches in the art.

Now it is your turn, we'd love to see your own interpretation ...

Remember we happily accept all forms of paper crafting for your entry including digital and encourage international submissions.  All we ask is that you create something new for our challenge and only combine your entry with a sketch challenge.  We offer two prizes determined by team vote and one other prize selected purely by random draw - so anyone can be a winner regardless of style or level of experience.  You have until 11.55pm on the last day of the month to submit your entry.

Please pop back on the 22nd when we introduce you to our March Guest Designer.

February winners and our March 3T's ...

I will be announcing our February winners shortly but first I would like to introduce you to our March edition of Tips, Tricks and Techniques brought to you by team member Mary Bennetts.

Mary here with some tips on what to do with left over paints and mists.

I really hate wasting any products, so I brought an  A4 visual art book at Kmart (they are inexpensive) and if I have paint left on my brush or palette I just brush it randomly into the book. If I have excess mist left in the box when I am finished spraying I just use the book to soak the colours up. I do the same if I have ink left on a stamp, I just randomly stamp it into the book.  Later when I am wanting a arty background I can find the perfect piece from these left over products.

Here are a few layouts that I have used these backgrounds for ...

The Journey stamp was already on my leftover art page so it was perfect for  the background and the painted paper added some much needed colour to my layout. Also the little triangle thingies are the left over from foam dots, so another way to use  up all those little bits we would normally throw out, they add great texture to a page.

The left over colours on this sheet were perfect for my Summer Time layout and highlighted the photo on the solid background. I like to leave the pulled out edge on as well as I think this also adds interest and saves using a punch.

On this piece I  have also used the left over mist from a mask onto the page  and then just kept adding left over paints and mists until It was just what I wanted for another layout.

A peek at my art book ...

and I will just keep adding colours to the pages until I have a piece I am happy with to use on a layout.

I hope this might encourage you to use your left over products in a creative way, for me sometimes they are the perfect solution.

Until next time Happy Creating,

Mary x

Tuesday 1 March 2016

Hello March ...

Welcome to another wonderful month on ARTastic.  This time we are inspiring you with a really quirky artwork by Mia Taninaka called Oh The Wise One.  I am sure you will love this as much as I do.

CRITERIA - Wood Veneer

A little about Mia Taninaka  - The little girl who once painted a forest all over her bedroom walls has grown up to be a wizard of fine line and expansive colour. Sydney born, Mia now lives and creates in the calm and elemental Bali. Painting predominantly with acrylics, watercolour and ink, Mia currently exhibits throughout Australia and Asia, always looking to expand her horizons. She likes to draw and paint on found wooden objects and panels, creating stunning colourful imaginative works inspired by her Japanese heritage and Australian roots.

And now some inspiration from the first of our team ...

MARIA
Tree and owl in the artwork looks very mysterious but fun! My page shows my happy girl. Multilayer layout of printed paper, wood branches and apples.ile emoticon

ELAINE
I went with the natural look, using bark looking background, natural twine, flowers and of course an owl smile emoticon I used the colours in the inspiration piece for my page. For my wood veneer, I used a wooden bunting which I also stamped on and a wooden flower in my flower cluster.

SUE
I was inspired by the owl and tree. My wood veneer is the owl and the word 'family'.

AN'JENIC

HELENE
I used a wood veneer that I broke into four pieces behind the photo. It is colored with a glitter acrylic paint in silver. I also used some wood veneer Arrows to highlight the photo.

LIZZY
Inspiration: 'neutral' background, like the art picture, used the colours - with a touch of pink/yellow & popped on a few birds, too!

TRACEY
This has got to be the quickest page I have put together in a long time - a super fast 15 mins. I got my wood veneer accents out and kept it simple.

Over to you ......
