Please welcome our September guest ...

Please welcome our guest designer this month, Agnus Kasprzak with her delightful layout inspired by our artwork for September.

I drew my inspiration from the  colours in the challenge piece to create a layout featuring my boys with their Dad on Father's Day. I used watercolours to create the background and paint splatters on one side of the page and added texture paste over a stencil to give my page more depth and to help it to tie in with one of the papers I layered beneath my photo.

Hi, my name is Agnus and I am very honoured to be playing along with this month's challenge. I am a mum of 3 boys from Sydney who discovered scrapbooking over 10 years ago and am still loving it today. My scrapping style consists of layered designs with plenty of embellishment clusters that help to tell a story. I also have a passion for project life pages and like to dabble in a variety of other crafts.

You can find more of my creations over on my Instagram account:
https://www.instagram.com/agnus.k or on my blog:
http://a-place-in-my-dreams.blogspot.com.au.

Here are two of my favourite recent layouts ...

Thank you so much for being part of the team this month  Agnus, we have really enjoyed having you with us and having you inspire all of us.

Remember ....

You still have time until the end of the month to upload your own take on this challenge.  All details are on the blog sidebar. We'd love to see what you can do with our inspiration this month.

Our second September reveal ...

Welcome to our mid month reveal.

This month we feature this delightful piece by Donald James Waters called Spot on.  Our criteria is a Tribute to Dad - any Dad anyway you might like to portray them.

CRITERIA - A tribute to Dad

Mary
My layout for the Fathers Day theme. A layout of my Dad of course. I have used the playing card symbols , as My Father, Mum, Aunts and Uncles loved a good game of cards. Lots of stamping, washi tape , old clocks , as my Dad had a old pocket watch. I also used dried tea leaves mixed with gesso for texture. I saw this technique on Marta's you tube channel, I have used dried tea bag paper before , but had never thought of using dried tea leaves, I like the technique.

Anna
I was inspired of the colors and the fishing theme. This is my tribute to my husband and the best father ever for our kids. Fishing is the best way for him to just relax.

Angelika
I was inspired by the pastel colours, and the presence of a pet, so I decided to scrap my cat and his human dad.

Tone
The photo is of my son and dear husband when they are playing Nintendo DS. I love the expression in Daniels face. The photo is taken in September 2007. The tag is from  clothes I bought a long time ago

Karen
My inspiration is lazing around and having fun on Fathers Day.

Kat
I was inspired by the colours (especially the blue and purple) and the masculine theme. My little brother's favourite colour is purple so I made a layout about him and his son on their first Father's Day.

Jane
This is my favourite photo of my Dad and I out on the farm when I was tiny.  I was inspired by the blue and brown from the artwork and incorporated some spotted paper (hard to see) in my layers.  Miss you Dad !

Now it is your turn, we'd love to see your own interpretation ...

Remember we happily accept all forms of paper crafting for your entry including digital and encourage international submissions. All we ask is that you create something new for our challenge and only combine your entry with a sketch challenge. August winners and our September tutorial ...

I will be announcing our August winners shortly but first I would like to introduce you to our August Tips, Tricks and Techniques brought to you by team member Karen McLaughlin.

Using tags on your layout by Karen McLaughlin

* Tags are a great way of using up those scraps of paper that get leftover from projects.

* I keep my scraps of paper/cardstock in a concertina type file in colours so that it’s easy to find what I’m looking for.

* Tags are a great option for those masculine layouts.

* I do have a tag punch but you can easily cut out tags yourself using a template.

* For my September layout I used a hole punch or you could use a Crop-A-Dile to add a hole.

* I used some cheap white hole re-enforcers and inked before placing.

* Adding a length of wool, string or twine works well.

* You could add extra texture by distressing the edges of the tags.

and now onto our August winners .....

We were working with this this delightful woodcut by Thea Proctor called The Swing. It is printed in black ink, and hand-coloured on cream rice paper and is hanging in the Art Gallery of NSW.

CRITERIA - The use of black pen on your work

And then it was September ...

Welcome to September.  This month we celebrate Father's Day here in Australia and our inspiration artwork has been chosen with Dad in mind.  It is a delightful piece by Donald James Waters called Spot on.  Our criteria this month is a Tribute to Dad  - yours, your children's, your Grandfather, your son with his children, your brother with his - any Dad anyway you might like to portray them.

CRITERIA - A tribute to Dad

A little about Donald James Waters ...

Donald James Waters is an established Australian artist with an illustrious career spanning over three decades. While best described as a contemporary artist, Donald’s artwork transcends many genres to create a truly unique yet ever evolving and eclectic style. Donald has relaxed the confines of his initial beginnings in botanical art now using stylised strokes, overemphasised characters and bold blocks of colour to shift his primary focus to that of a storyteller rather than a technically correct traditional artist.

Donald’s career has taken his art to every corner of the globe and his distinctive style has made its way into the catalogues of many private and corporate collectors alike, including that of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s art collection. More recently Donald has concentrated his efforts closer to home completing several commissioned government art projects and participating in community programs within Queensland. This year (2016) Donald was awarded with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for services to the community and the Arts and has been previously recognised as Gold Coast Citizen of the Year.

And now some amazing inspiration from the first of our team ...

LIZZY
I took the orange, red, yellow and green colours as well as the idea of stripes, taken from the t-shirt, as inspiration. The idea of relaxation came into it with the photo I chose to scrap, too

TRACEY
My Man does not do passive sports, but he did do surf boat racing for a while and the photo opportunities where great. My inspiration was the beach theme of the painting.

SUE
Inspired by "The tribute to Dad" and the colours. My eldest son has just become a Dad and he got to give the first bath at the hospital 'bathing class'.

MARIA
In my country, father's day falls in another month but my husband inspires me always! I have written some facts about him.

HELENE
This is a tribune to a father's love to his daughter.

AN'JENIC
My inspiration is from the colors and splatters on the artwork.

ELAINE
My page is inspired by the colours of the ocean and boat and some black and white from the dog.  I'm starting to include my husband in photos as I think it's important for the kids to see later on.
